Whistleblower protection national laws

Whistleblower protection national laws varied worldwide until the passing of the EU Whistleblower Protection Directive, designed to safeguard those wanting to raise concerns.

Every EU member state is required to transpose the rules into their national laws, by either updating existing rules or implementing new ones.

The Finnish Whistleblower Protection Act

The new legislation came into force on January 1st 2023. It states that Finnish private sector employers regularly employing at least 250 employees, and public sector employers regularly employing at least 50 employees, must set up a secure, confidential whistleblowing channel before the deadline of 1st April 2023.
