Nordea bank is the third largest company in the Nordics, and one of the biggest banks in Europe.
Through the WhistleB whistleblowing system, Nordea’s employees and external stakeholders can report suspected misconduct or irregularities, such as fraudulent, inappropriate, dishonest, illegal or negligent activity or behaviour. Nordea’s internal control procedures are designed to detect and prevent misconduct and fraudulent actions. However, the bank knows that even the most effective controls cannot fully safeguard against all possible incidents. This is why Nordea encourages employees and others to report any suspected fraudulent or unethical behaviour.

Swedfund is the Development Finance Institution of the Swedish state.
Swedfund selected WhistleB to establish a whistleblowing service both for its own employees as well as for its portfolio companies. WhistleB worked closely with Swedfund to design the technical solution. Find out more about how Swedfund and WhistleB cooperated in this interview with Johan Ek, Senior Legal Counsel at Swedfund.
How has WhistleB contributed? WhistleB has deep knowledge in the field of organisational whistleblowing. They provide a global service, that is easy to adapt, and they have a service-minded attitude.
How does your whistleblowing service strengthen your position as a responsible investor? Swedfund invests in 30 different markets, many of which are in Africa. We work continuously to combat corruption and other serious irregularities. WhistleB’s whistleblowing service is a vital tool in these efforts. The whistleblowing service, which aims to protect Swedfund’s interests and the policies that guide Swedfund, is available to employees, contractors and interns, and it is also available to our portfolio companies. As an investor, we want to make sure that the employees working in our portfolio companies can sound an alarm securely if they suspect any serious irregularity. We encourage each portfolio company to adopt and implement their own system, but we offer our system as an interim solution.
What were the challenges when implementing the whistleblowing service, and how were they solved? One challenge was to find a technical solution that enabled an independent third party to receive and investigate reports concerning our own employees. WhistleB helped us with a technical solution customised to our needs. It was also important for us to be able to customise the reporting channel and the communications to different target groups.
