PROUD TO ANNOUNCE: the Winners of the WhistleB UN International Anti-Corruption Day competition

Today is the United Nations’ International Anti-Corruption Day, a day to remind us all of the disastrous impacts of corruption.

WhistleB is proudly supporting this day through the WhistleB Anti-Corruption Day competition, launched in November. And today we are very pleased to announce two winners who each will receive a free world-leading Whistleblowing service for two years.

 

 Winner 1 – East African Portland Cement Company Ltd, Kenya

 

The East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC) is Kenya’s leading cement manufacturer. Their winning entry led with this quotation:

“When you hold a public office, you do it in trust for the people. When you therefore use it to serve self interests, you have betrayed the people who entrusted that office to you”

We fully agree with our winner. However, what we were most impressed with is the organisation’s clear commitment to stamping out corruption. They established an Ethics and Integrity office in 2012 to build an ethical culture, promote accountability, and improve governance in the organisation. Further, the fight against corruption is viewed as everybody’s responsibility. This is evidenced by the fact that Corruption Risk Assessments (CRA) are carried out and Corruption Mitigation Plans (CRMP) have been put in place in all departments, and sensitisation programmes targeting 700 employees are carried out annually.

The EAPCC has recognised that the fight against corruption is a long, and all encompassing endeavour, and we believe that WhistleB’s anonymous, online whistleblowing service is a great complement to their strategy.

        

Winner 2 – Linus, Essop & Associates Forensic Services, Cameroon

 

Our second well-deserving winners, Linus, Essop & Associates Forensic Services, is a company that helps customers identify and solve fraud, corruption, financial irregularities and other related issues.

The jury was impressed by the importance the company placed on having a whistleblowing system to illustrate to all stakeholders – investors, employees, customers and suppliers – that they are committed to honesty, clear communication and combatting corruption in all its forms.

Further, the company sees the implementation of a whistleblowing system, not only as a risk management or compliance tool, but also as a strategic service that will enable the company to achieve its long-term mission.
